My husband and I met in college. We were married 9 months later! After graduating together we felt the Lord calling us to seminary for a time. We weren’t sure how long He would have us there, but we were excited to grow and learn more about the Bible and see what ministry He might be preparing us for. In 2010, while attending seminary, we were presented with an opportunity to go to Milan, Italy to work for an international church. We fell in love with Italy and the people there and knew that Italy would one day be our home. We loved the international ministry we did there, but we saw the great need for missionaries to minister specifically to native Italians. God began burdening our hearts for Italian people, and we decided that eventually we would transition our ministry focus.
Then, God interrupted our plans to remain in Italy permanently. We had struggled to start a family for quite some time and then suddenly found ourselves pregnant with our first baby! Our joy quickly turned to grief when at our first sonogram we were told that our baby had terminal complications and that if she made it to term, she would not live outside of the womb. At that point we made the decision to carry our baby until God chose to take her, and to do this, we needed to go back to the States. About a month later, her heart stopped beating and we lost her. We decided that it was best to continue with our plans back to the States for a time of healing and recovery.
Italy has been on our hearts since we returned, and after God miraculously blessed us with two amazing little baby boys over the next few years, we knew God was telling us that now is the time. So in June 2015 we began applying with TEAM and were officially accepted as missionary appointees in October of 2015.
Lord willing, we will return to Italy early 2017, after we finish raising financial support. Initially, we will be studying the language, but eventually, Tyler and I will be leading worship at one of the church plants that TEAM currently is part of. We will also be doing family ministry and discipleship. Our vision is to see lives transformed by the Gospel and the people of Italy worshiping God together in reproducing churches.
