Ben & Beth Barthelemy

My Story

From a young age, Ben realized his own sinfulness and need for a Savior. Through the testimony of his parents, he trusted in Christ. His family has been involved in both pastoral and overseas ministry, giving Ben a firsthand glimpse of faithful service to the Lord. Early in high school, Ben realized that God had given him a desire to serve in cross-cultural ministry. In order to further prepare for serving the Lord in full-time ministry, Ben attended Moody Bible Institute, where he met Beth.

Beth was raised by loving and godly parents who taught her from an early age about the love of Jesus. It wasn't until high school that she truly understood the significance of the gospel and became passionate about following Jesus. After a short-term missions trip to Peru, the Lord gave Beth a passion for overseas ministry. Beth graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a BA in Biblical Studies and an emphasis in women's ministry.

Ben & Beth were married in 2009. In the past six years, the Lord has been actively preparing us for the mission field. We spent a year living and working in Taiwan, and have been attending Trinity Evangelical Divinity School for the past four years. Beth graduated with an MA in Christian Studies in May 2014, and Ben will graduate with an MDiv this coming May. We are blessed with three daughters, Norah (3) and Stella (2), and Tess (6 mo).

Ministry Focus:

We both have a passion for teaching God's Word and seeing people come to a better understanding of themselves, God, and what he requires of those committed to him. We look forward to joining the staff of Union Bible Institute in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. UBI serves the South African church by providing a theological education for students who desire to serve the Lord in ministry. After some time in language study, Ben will begin teaching, with a focus on Hebrew. Beth's ministry will be primarily to our family in these early years, but she is excited about developing discipling relationships with student wives and other women on campus.

Primary Prayer Request:

Pray that God would provide the funds we need to head to Southern Africa in the summer of 2016, for the many details that need to be worked out, and for God to be giving us a love for the students at Union Bible Institute even now.
