I graduated from Northwestern College (Iowa) in December 2016 with a degree in Spanish and a minor in TESOL. While in college I spent a semester studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain and I really grew to love Spanish people and culture. Upon returning home from my study abroad I sensed God calling me to return to Spain as a missionary. I am excited to be joining TEAM in Spain and I am so grateful that I will be able to use my teaching and Spanish language skills to minister to Spaniards and share the gospel with them.
I will be involved in a variety of ministries while I am in Spain. I will be teaching English classes at an English academy in Sevilla and I will also be involved in relational ministry/discipleship with local Spaniards and some American study abroad students. My hope is that I will be able to use teaching English as a way to build relationships with Spaniards so that I can share the gospel with them and introduce them to the life-changing love and grace that can only be found in a relationship with Christ.
While Spaniards may seem somewhat reserved at first, you will quickly find that they are a very warm and relational people. They are strongly rooted in their traditions and they really know how to enjoy life and live life to the fullest.
While Spain is a historically Catholic country, most Spaniards do not have a personal, saving relationship with Jesus Christ. In a post-modern society like Spain, many people have become disillusioned with the Church and don't want anything to do with religion. It is estimated that less than 1% of Spaniards are evangelical Christians.
Primary Prayer Request:
Please pray that God will be moving in the hearts of Spaniards and that they will be open to having a personal relationship with Him. Pray that Spaniards will be receptive to the gospel and that they will desire to know more about Christ. Pray that God will be using me and the rest of my team in Sevilla to be His hands and feet, sharing His message of love and forgiveness with the people of Spain.
