I grew up moving around...my dad was in the US Navy until I was almost done with high school. My family and I lived in many, many different places, and God really used all the moving around to give me a passion for new places, different countries, and other languages. My parents are both believers and taught me to love the Lord from a young age. I was blessed to go to Wheaton College (IL) for undergraduate studies and, while there, met my husband, Pete, on the swim team. We both swam four years at Wheaton, and I majored in Elementary Education and Spanish. Upon graduating, my husband and I married and moved to Norfolk, VA, where I taught in the public school system for a number of years while also completing a Master's of Arts degree in Applied Linguistics at Old Dominion University. Pete was a youth pastor in Norfolk for eight years, and I enjoyed serving with him in that ministry. Pete and I have three beautiful daughters: Aliana, Avalon, and Kylah. They keep us busy, but they also make sure we have lots of fun!
God called our family to La Paz, Mexico in 2010, and it has been an amazing journey...we are excited to be serving in Mexico for a number of reasons...Rancho el Camino is a ministry where we can both use our passions...my husband's passion for counseling, discipleship, and camping ministries and my passions for community development, education, and the Spanish language.
Pete (Husband), & Aliana, Avalon, Kylah
Pete and I are using camping ministry and church based community development to assist the local Mexican church in their effort to bring the holistic, redemptive work of Jesus Christ to individuals, families, and the community.
Specifically, I enjoy working with women and children, and as we continue to develop Rancho el Camino and the Marquez de Leon church plant/community center, I look forward to having reading and homework clubs, educational supplementation for children at risk in their schools, and sports and outdoor ministries for youth. The possibilities are endless; I love that our team is seeking to use creative ministries as we serve in and with the community for the glory of God.
Primary Prayer Request:
My main prayer request is the the following verses would be exemplified in my life and in the ministry to which God has called me:
Isaiah 58:6-8 "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter--when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will quickly appear; then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard."
