My Story

Roger H. Luce, Ed.D.

Lois and I have served with TEAM since 1978, when we began language study in Costa Rica. Our first assignment was to Christiansen Academy in Rubio Venezuela, where I taught physics, math, and Bible, while Lois served as the School Nurse. Together we led a small congregation of Venezuelan believers in the coffee-growing town of Cascarí, in the Andes Mountains.

After 22 years of ministry at Christiansen Academy, I was asked to join what became the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) while I completed my doctoral studies in adult learning and professional development at the University of Massachusetts. For ten years, the CLL provided initial orientation and ongoing learning for TEAM workers in cross-cultural communication and ministry.

In 2014, I was asked to serve as a Curriculum Consultant on loan to the Africa Inland Mission (AIM) as they updated the curriculum for their Training in Ministry Outreach (TIMO) program. Lois and I moved to Tanzania for two years to serve with a team in the curriculum update. The team we worked with produced a new curriculum guide, a new team leader's guide, and an expanded list of print, audio, video, and online resources for use by TIMO, which were published in 2017.

Ministry Focus:

Since returning from Tanzania (serving as a Curriculum Consultant for African Inland Mission's TIMO program for two years) I (Roger) continue to serve TEAM as Learning Technology Coordinator, part of the Learning and Development Group.

I am privileged to do a ministry that I love for the Lord I love. Learning has always been a big part of my personal focus. I taught physics, math, and Bible at the High School level, in public school in the US and at Christiansen Academy, a private Christian school operated by TEAM in Venezuela. Inter-cultural communication, particularly the effective communication of the Gospel among cultures became a focus of my own learning, and it is now my joy to help others grow in their effectiveness in this area as well.

The Learning and Development group provides orientation for new workers as they prepare for overseas ministry, helps shape their onboarding experience when they arrive in their area of service, and we provide resources and tools for lifelong learning that are accessible to the workers through technology.

Paul's instruction to Timothy (2 Timothy 2:2) continues to be the summary of my calling and my ministry: "And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable [individuals] who will also be qualified to teach others." This is a description of "making disciples who make disciples who make disciples."
