How to Weigh Missions Agencies Against Each Other

A woman sits at a computer with books stacked up next too her
There are lots of great missions agencies out there. How do you weigh the pros and cons? Here are some helpful ways to narrow down your options.

There are hundreds of missions agencies out there, and for good reason. People are diverse, cultures are vast, and denominations differ. Yet it can be overwhelming for the would-be missionary. How do you choose between missions agencies when multiple ones seem right? Or when all of the options have a flaw? Or when each agency can only offer you part of your vision? Part of my role as a TEAM missions coach is to help potential missionaries discern which missions agency is best for them. Sometimes the choice seems obvious, but it’s often a matter of weighing pros and cons…

Praying Psalm 46 in a Time of Crisis

Women praying together
Join us today in praying Psalm 46:10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God”, is a favorite verse for retreats at mountain cabins and lakeside cottages. But the psalm itself assumes a very different setting. In verse 1, God is an ever-present help, and again in verses 4, 5, 7, and 11, His presence brings courage and strength. But have you noticed that in verses 2, 3, and 6, the ‘nations are in uproar”? The invitation to be still and to seek God takes place in the midst of chaos and worldly drama, not in a quiet sanctuary. It reminds us of Habakkuk who…

TEAM Eats: Flammkuchen

Looking down at flammkuchen, which looks similar to a square pizza with cheese and bacon
This German, pizza-style dish is delicious and so simple anyone can make it! Keep reading to see how we made it!

Flammkuchen is a specialty of the region of Germany where we live and serve as TEAM missionaries.  Back in the day, German farmers would bake bread once a week. To test the oven temperature before they baked bread, they would put this small assortment of bread, creme fraiche and cheese into the oven. And that creation eventually evolved into what we know today as flammkuchen, or “pie baked in flames.”  Nowadays it’s the German version of pizza. It’s easy to eat on the go, or you can get it at a nice restaurant. It’s very simple to make, which is…

The Riots That Led to Friendship

burned building in Papua in August 2019
In the Summer of 2019, violent protests in Papua left burning buildings in their wake — but these protests also led to a surprising friendship.

People barricaded the streets. They threw stones at local businesses. They set buildings on fire. The people of Papua, Indonesia, were not happy, and they wanted the government to know. As TEAM missionaries serving in Papua, Devon and Katie Hayes thought it best to keep a low profile during the protests. They tried to avoid big groups of people in the streets and parks. And eventually, the Indonesian government sent military troops to clean up the situation. Devon and Katie warned their sons Seth (age 6) and Nick (age 3) about what was going on. But kids aren’t necessarily concerned…

Missionaries Before They’re Missionaries [March Prayer Focus]

Three women stand and talk
Every step of the missionary journey needs prayer — even the steps taken before someone knows they'll become a missionary. Learn how to pray for future missionaries!

Every missionary begins the same way: an ordinary Christian who is not a missionary — and who needs a lot of prayer to get them to the field. This month, we’re praying for future missionaries. These missionaries range from people who are raising the last of their support, to people who may not even know that God wants them on the mission field. For ideas on how to pray, we talked with current missionaries about their experiences before they became missionaries. Despite ending up in completely different parts of the world, a lot of them went through similar things to…
