Announcing Our Interim CEO

photo_77TEAM is pleased to announce the appointment of our Interim CEO, Dr. Scott Henson.

Scott joined TEAM in 2003, serving initially as Director of Communications. He launched TEAM’s award-winning TEAMHorizons magazine and spent the last decade traveling TEAM’s ministry areas, collecting stories of God at work. Over the past year, Scott played a major role in shaping TEAM’s future direction and strategies, working closely with the leadership team and the board of directors.

Scott received a bachelor’s degree from Gardner-Webb College in religious and Biblical studies (1988). Later, he earned an MBA from Duke University (1992) and a Creative Writing MFA from Queens University of Charlotte (2003), and went on to graduate from Vanderbilt University with a Ph.D in international relations and law (2005).

Prior to his tenure with TEAM, Scott’s diverse background included short-term missions in Asia among Vietnamese and Chinese refugees; then serving at various times as a local church pastor, church planter, and missions mobilizer. His multi-faceted professional background spans textiles, publishing, finance, and media. During his career in international business, Scott engaged with churches and cross-cultural ministries in more than 50 countries. Scott also teaches as a professor of international studies at Maryville College and has served as a visiting professor of international law and business at two major universities.

Married to Amy, they have a loving family with seven children. Their oldest child, Anna, is a college student, while Webb is a new arrival, less than two months old! The Henson family makes their home in Maryville, Tennessee where they attend River Oaks Community Church.

Scott’s role as Interim CEO is effective as of November 3, 2012, succeeding Dr. Charles Davis who has led TEAM with integrity, faithfulness, sacrifice, passion, and vision for over a decade. We look forward with excitement at what God is doing, opening many new doors for the sake of the gospel!

From Our Board Chair:

On behalf of the board of directors, I would like to express appreciation for the visionary leadership and passionate service of Charlie Davis over the past twelve years. Charlie guided us through many necessary changes and improvements, and because of Charlie’s guidance, TEAM is now poised to enter a new era. We are excited to implement some new and innovative plans that meet the challenges of our time, so that God’s never-changing Gospel can be spread more effectively.

I am also eager to welcome and introduce to you our new Interim CEO, Scott Henson. Because of his bold and forward-looking vision, along with his passion and expertise, we are convinced that he is God’s man for this time in TEAM’s history. We look forward to what God has in store for us under Scott’s leadership – new opportunities, dynamic partnerships, innovative plans – all for the ultimate goal of reaching more people for Christ.

I admire the unique gifts with which Charlie and Scott have been blessed. Each one has, and is continuing to use, his abilities to serve God with integrity and passion. Please pray for them and for TEAM as we help churches and individuals carry out the Great Commission.

A Personal Note From TEAM’s Former International Director, Charlie Davis:

It has been an enormous privilege and honor to lead an organization like TEAM for these last 12-plus years. I have been blessed by being a part of TEAM’s ministry around the globe. We have carried the good news of Jesus to the ragged edges of a broken world. What a joy to make disciples, see lives transformed, and watch in awesome wonder as God causes the Body of Christ to grow! New doors continue to open and exciting times are ahead, so let us pray to the Lord of the Harvest to raise up the next generation of workers.

A Personal Note From Scott:

Traveling with TEAM missionaries and sharing their stories has been the most exciting adventure of my life. Making disciples among the nations for more than a century is legacy that I can’t fully comprehend, and just the glimpse that I’ve been able to see is more amazing than anything I could have imagined. Now, I have the opportunity to serve again those that are faithfully and courageously serving in this mission. TEAM has a great purpose and we serve a great God. Together, we have opportunities every day to make an impact for the Kingdom by sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth.

On a recent Sunday, while singing in worship with our church, the Spirit renewed my vision for the time when tongues from every nation will proclaim the glory of God. TEAM is engaged on the front lines of a fierce struggle and the enemy does not rest in his opposition, but we already have the victory by faith in our Lord and Savior. I look forward to serving alongside you in this great mission!
