Prayer Needs Abound for War Refugees and Workers

Ukraine refugees getting supplies from a resource tent.
Traumatized and spiritually hungry people in and around Ukraine as well as those helping them desperately need our prayers.

Nearly 5 million Ukrainian war refugees have crossed borders into other countries, and an additional 6-8 million internally displaced people have migrated west within Ukraine. This month’s Prayer Focus is on relief and ministry efforts for these refugees, also known as the diaspora. Just before the Russian invasion, TEAM evacuated its two workers from Ukraine. (You can read their stories here.) But TEAM’s ministry work both inside and outside of Ukraine was only beginning. Within days of the first bombings, TEAM workers in the Czech Republic began receiving refugees, and other TEAM ministry areas were soon to follow. Global workers…

Gospel Work Continues in War-Torn Ukraine

Odesa Cityscape
Despite the devastation of war, the Holy Spirit is on the move in Ukraine.

Two years ago, we braced ourselves for a pandemic that rocked the world and called the Church to prayer. Today, we have a new reason to go to our knees, this time in intercession for the nation and people of Ukraine. The Russian invasion which began Thursday, February 24 is the most aggressive act of war in Europe since World War II. At the time of the Russian invasion, TEAM had two global workers in Ukraine, Maria* and Samantha*. Both were safely evacuated shortly before the onset of fighting but left behind churches, ministries, and Ukrainian believers they know and…

Special Prayer Alert: Ukraine

The Russian invasion of Ukraine which began Thursday, February 24, 2022 is being called the most aggressive act of war in Europe since World War II. As an international mission organization, TEAM is monitoring the situation in Ukraine and its effects on the world.  First, by way of update, TEAM had two global workers in Ukraine as of a few weeks ago. Both were safely evacuated prior to the Russian attack. They leave behind ministries, churches, and their Ukrainian brothers and sisters. As members of the Body of Christ, we recognize the importance of prayer amid these challenging times. We…

Does Europe Need Missionaries?

does europe need missionaries
The majority of Europeans identify with the Christian faith. So why is there a need for missionaries there? Photo by TEAM.

When you think of mission work, what comes to mind probably isn’t someone in France discussing theology with a neighbor over cappuccinos. But the reality is, Europe critically needs more Christian missionaries to make disciples. There are several reasons we leave Europe off the map when we think of spreading the gospel “to the ends of the earth.” The most glaring one being that the gospel has already been spread there. In the New Testament, we read about the gospel’s early adoption in Europe through Paul’s letters to the church in modern-day Greece, Italy and Turkey. Marble statues, massive cathedrals…

When Learning a New Language, Pray First and Speak Second

learning a new language
What happens when you want to share the gospel, but lack the vocabulary to do it? For many missionaries, this is the reality of their first years on the field. This growth season can feel frustrating and helpless. But as worker Amanda Keeny shares, her weakness in the Russian language strengthened a better communication plan: prayer. Photo by TEAM

I used to think that in the moments of crisis, you should first seek all available solutions, and then, when there’s nothing else that can be done, pray. I knew prayer was important but believed it was more like a Hail Mary pass. When everything seems hopeless, you just kind of chuck your prayer up into the air, hoping it will stick. But the longer I’ve served as a missionary in Ukraine with TEAM, the more that belief has been proven wrong.  For the times in the past year when I felt like (and had the language abilities of) a child, prayer…
