Beroun is a beautiful and scenic town 20 minutes west of the capital city of Prague. The town was a Communist stronghold, and there is a big need for a Christian presence. In 2013, a group of Czechs and missionaries have moved to this city with the intent to establish a church in this Gospel needy community. We have been excited to see how God has developed our community as “make disciples.”

The Call:

Czech Republic is one of the most atheistic and secular countries in the world. It is estimated that that less than 3 in 1000 people are what we would consider evangelical Christian. There is a desperate need for the Gospel in this dark place. After living in the Czech Republic for 5 years we are painfully aware of the lack of vibrant, reproducing and Gospel-centered churches here. While we see some people come to faith through ministries, trying to find them a suitable church family and community can be incredibly challenging. We have a burden to see God change communities through the local church. We desire to establish something that can reach people today and the future generations of Beroun.

Beroun is a beautiful and scenic town 20 minutes west of the capital city of Prague. The town of Beroun has around 18,000 people, and if you combine Beroun with the towns attached to it (Kraluv Dvur) and (Zdice), there are around 28,000 people.  There is a strong sense of community among the people. There really has not been a consistent evangelical presence in the town for a long time. The town was a Communist stronghold during the days of Communism, and there is a big need for a Christian presence here.

In the year 2013 a church planting team of 12 people made up of Czechs and a German missionary couple, hearing the Abrahamic call from God, and moved from the Eastern region of Czech Republic (Ostrava) specifically to start a work in the city of Beroun. We joined the team in 2014 following our home assignment. God has been building the church one step at a time. It has been incredible to see God work in the hearts of young people and build his kingdom through relationships this last year and half.

Many people ask how do you plant a church? There is no cookie-cutter approach to planting a church but God is the one who plants churches and brings people to Him.  We are responsible to be faithful to His leading. The main thing that is important in Czech Republic is relationships. It takes time and trust is such an important component in this untrusting and skeptical culture. Practically, we may teach English or German, do English and sports camps, have small group Bible studies, conversation partners, sports clubs or teach in the local schools.  We also end up hosting many Czechs in our home.

The Challenge:

As with any church plant in the Czech Republic where the Gospel is going forward, there will be opposition from the enemy. We have experienced that already. We would ask that you partner with us in prayer and pray specifically for spiritual protection, unity, wisdom and provision as our team works together in Beroun.
