Christ Bible Institute(CBI) Partnership

Our Mission:

CBI equips Christians in Japan for the work of gospel ministry. For the gospel of the glory of Christ to be heard and believed, a variety of ministry is needed. We want to serve in such a way that new leaders are developed for the revival and expansion of the church in Japan.

Michael Oh started CBI as a seminary in 2005 and expanded its ministries in 2010 with the move to downtown Nagoya. CBI is an umbrella organization with four primary ministries, each with a unique equipping focus. These ministries are Christ Bible Seminary, Joy of Japan Center for Church Planting and Development, Christian Counseling for Japan, and CBI Press.

Christ Bible Seminary offers a one-year certificate in Christian Ministry, a two-year MA degree, and a three-year MDiv degree. The Joy of Japan Center focuses on equipping church planters and church revitalizers with coaching, mentoring, conferences, and panels on key topics. The Christian Counseling for Japan project provides training in pastoral counseling to seminary students and leaders in churches. CBI Press translates and distributes quality Christian books and resources.

Missionary Intern Opportunities:
CBI is a place of interconnection. If you are exploring how God might be calling you to serve in missions, CBI is an excellent gateway to a spectrum of roles as you experience the Japanese church, serve with missionaries, and see how the Lord is at work in Japan. For example, interns at CBI often have opportunities to volunteer at the Café Mon Ami ministry or a place for women with Life Hope Network (a pregnancy resource ministry).

As a TEAM mid-term missionary at CBI, you can further broaden that exposure to TEAM’s ministries elsewhere in Japan. To learn more about internships for one-year and two-year terms, watch this video:

Our Values:

Gospel lifestyle – We seek to live a fukuin no seikatsu (gospel lifestyle). The gospel is not simply a message to lead others to salvation. It is our lifeblood. We believe that the only way to be truly impactful in ministry is through the gospel. Christians on our CBI team need this gospel for our day-to-day lives just as much as those who are not yet Christians. To cherish the gospel is to abide in Christ, for apart from Him we can do nothing. We work not simply out of duty, but we work and wait for the joy that this good news promises.

Our Vision:

CBI’s vision is “The Gospel of the glory of Christ cherished and proclaimed throughout Japan (2 Cor 4:4).”

We long to see a movement of renewal and church multiplication so that the gospel may be enjoyed by everyone in Japan. We long to see Christ receive the glory He deserves. We long for this gospel to be proclaimed for all to hear.
