The Shalom House: Arts and Community Center

Our Mission & Ministry:

The Shalom House: Arts and Community Center exists to practice Kingdom community, nurturing holistic disciples who love, work, live, and serve alongside each other, displaying irrefutable proof of the power of the gospel to a broken world, and strengthening the testimony of the gospel to the world around us all so that the influence of the gospel may “go and do likewise” in places it has not yet reached.
We do this by intentionally learning and practicing spiritual disciplines together, and by creating a well-crafted, welcoming space where people can experience and practice a holistic application of the gospel within the Kingdom community through both the Shalom House ministry and the individual Hub ministries (art classes, community gatherings, etc.) that take place at Shalom House.
Shalom House staff will have their own individual or group ministry focus in addition to their ministry together as a staff. This can be teaching a painting class, songwriting, sculpting, crafting, baking, movie making, and any other creative venture or community event that brings people together.

Our Values:

We strongly value authenticity, openness, creativity, and above all a hunger for the fullness of God and his kingdom here on earth and in heaven.
Some character traits we want to foster among our staff, and that we see as necessary for success in Shalom House, are personal emotional and spiritual awareness, humility, and love and deference for one another.

Our Vision:

The Shalom House strives to create an environment that aligns well with TEAM Japan’s purpose and vision. The hope is that this environment will trickle out into many other communities and gatherings. By partnering with missionaries and Japanese Christians, we are also partnering with the churches that those people are connected with. We hope to send disciples who make disciples by building into those Christian workers in order to foster a Gospel-centric lifestyle. By equipping these believers to live out of this holistic gospel and Kingdom community, we are helping to create the foundation for missional churches (ie: true, mature followers of Jesus).
We believe art is something that fits very well with our intentions for the community. We see art as the door that God has given us to enter into this ministry of using Kingdom Community to share Christ. We desire to make a safe space for people to express themselves through art, help them to understand God the Creator better, and bring them into a closer relationship with God and a community that supports one another as we learn together.
