Returning Member Candidate

Mary Cloutier

Mary was born the eighth of nine children in 1963 and raised in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Although her parents were unchurched, they sent their children to church and Mary accepted Christ around the age of six. At Nyack college, she majored in Art Education with extra focuses in Special Education and French. Through a summer job overseas in Switzerland and subsequent semester abroad in Wales, God confirmed Mary’s calling to missions in French-speaking Africa.

In 1990, Mary began graduate school at Alliance Theological Seminary, graduating with a Masters of Divinity in 1994. She then applied to become a full-time missionary through the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and began language study in Burkina Faso in 1998. After further culture and language study in a village of Gabon, Mary was transferred to the capital city of Libreville, where she served as a professor at the Bethel Bible Institute until 2008.

Back to the U.S. in 2009, Mary began Ph.D. studies at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School but spent two years teaching at Nyack College before returning to TEDS to complete her Ph.D. in 2012. Mary currently serves as an Associate Professor at Moody Bible Institute and lives in urban Chicago. Among her many contributions to MBI, Mary oversees the Intercultural Studies Department internships and she co-leads MBI’s Annual Missions Conference. She is also active in the Moody Church ministry to incarcerated women.
