Refugee and Diaspora Ministries

Hundreds of thousands of people cross international borders each year fleeing their homelands — pressured by war, political or religious persecution, natural disaster, and economic hardship. These groups are especially vulnerable and face overwhelming hardship in communities that are not their own. TEAM workers who serve among refugee and immigrant groups seek to demonstrate Christ’s love in practical ways and offer hope. We work in and through local communities of believers to share the gospel, which immigrants often take back with them to countries that are closed to traditional missionaries.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Empathetic heart and eagerness to meet the deep felt needs of others
  • Displays patience to work through ambiguity

What You Should Know Before You Join

Here are some things you might want to know before you take the next step.

Connect with a Missions Coach

Why do I need a missions organization?

As a missions organization, TEAM will train and equip you as a global worker (missionary) to serve. We also support you and your family each step of the way, and provide an infrastructure that will maximize your effectiveness in missions and your partnership with local, indigenous churches.

What does training look like?

Our goal is to help you become the cross-cultural worker God made you to be. But every mission field, ministry, team, and life stage comes with unique challenges. That’s why our Learning and Development and Member Care teams work with you to create a training plan to prepare you for missions, and to continue to support you throughout your service and beyond. From the day you become a member of the TEAM community, we’re here to walk alongside you.

What do finances look like?

Depending on your length of service, ministry role, and geographic factors, the financial aspects of missions work can vary greatly. In all cases, TEAM provides financial guidance, as well as helpful tools, resources, and training for support raising.

What is the first step?

Whether you are just beginning to feel a call to something bigger than yourself, or you’ve had a destination and ministry in mind for years, the best first step is to connect with a missions coach to start the conversation. There is no pressure, no obligation, no defined timeline, and no need to have it “all figured out.”

Once we understand, then we can love. Once we love, then we can serve.

Truly, every moment of missions and ministry is a call back to Jesus at the well, saying, "Set down your false nourishment, and come drink what I have prepared."
