Anesthetist

Opportunity in South Asia

Description

A 150-bed hospital in rural South Asia is seeking a qualified anesthetist to support the team of non-medical anesthetists here. The anesthetic team consists of 2 senior nurse anesthetists (trained by visiting foreigners over the years), a medical assistant anesthetist and two new nurses. Two other nurses also help with on-calls. The hospital has 3 operating theatres, one for mainly general/gynecology, one for obstetrics, and one for small procedures and endoscopies. Most of the caseload is obstetrics (with many high-risk cases), gynae, and general surgery. There are 3,600 deliveries per year, with a 20% Caesarean section rate (2 per day on average). Occasional operations on neonates as well as all other age groups.

There is a need for a physician anesthetist to expand the teaching of the newer anesthesia nurses, to improve the skills of existing nurses, to help manage complex patients within a limited resource setting and to maintain resuscitation skills. This role ranges from 9 months up to 3+ years and provides the opportunity to partner with an international team of followers in one of the least-reached location in South Asia.
