My Story:

Don grew up in a Christian home and accepted Christ as Savior at a young age. Don was baptized at age 9 . Most of his formative years were spent in Hobart, Indiana, where he graduated from Hobart High School. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Hobart. Don graduated from Wheaton College (IL) with a BA in Anthropology. At Trinity Evangelical Divinity School he earned and M.Div. and a Th.M. in Missions and Evangelism. Don married Martha Lindsey in 1976.

Don committed his life to God when he was 12, asking God to direct him according to His will. The Lord guided Don to study anthropology at Wheaton College. Upon graduation in 1970, Don went to Japan as a short-term missionary for two years in the Operation Helping Hand program. “While in Japan, I believe God called me to return to Japan as a career missionary,” Don said. He returned to the US and studied missions and evangelism at Trinity.

Don and Martha have been career missionaries in Japan since 1980. After language study in Karuizawa and a church planting ministry in Toyoake, in mid 1988 Don joined nearly 200 Japanese Christians on the staff of Word of Life Press Ministries (WLPM) in Tokyo.

Ministry Focus:

Don’s work at Word of Life Press Ministries: WLPM is Japan?s largest Christian publisher, retailer and distributor and was started by TEAM but is now independent. Don is on the executive board of directors and works in the International Division, helping to choose what English books to publish in Japanese and corresponding with English-speaking publishers, authors and customers. He teaches Evangelism Resource seminars to new missionaries and publishes several English catalogs of WLPM?s Japanese publications, putting that information on the English page of the WLPM web site. He creates English advertisements and news releases for English publications. He coordinates the international distribution of these Japanese and bilingual products around the world, including N. America where 500,00 Japanese live and study.

The Regiers are cooperating missionaries helping pastor Toshihiro Hayashi in the ministry of Asaka Bible Church just north of Tokyo in Asaka City, Saitama Prefecture. They teach English classes to children and English Bible classes to adults that introduce many to the Sunday School and church. They also lead various outreach meetings and sing concerts for the church. This is the 5th Japanese congregation they have ministered in over their 32 years in Japan, in addition to speaking and singing in many others for special evangelistic outreaches.

The People:

Less than 1% of Japanese are Christians, making them one of the largest unreached people groups. 85% claim no heart religion while most follow customs related to Buddhism and Shinto. 5% however do claim a connection to Christianity. Many have been through historically Christian related private schools and kindergartens but the vast majority have never heard the gospel in a clearly understandable way. We look for bridges to the heart to present Christ.

Primary Prayer Request:

For salvation of English students in Asaka ministry. For more connection with neighbors to build relationships. For preparation, production and distribution of effective evangelism tools by WLPM that bring many people to Christ.
