Jim grew up as a TEAM missionary kid (MK) in South Korea. After studying math at Wheaton College, he went to Venezuela with TEAM in 1987 to be a teacher and principal at a school for MKs from the Caribbean. Returning to study at Dallas Theological Seminary, he met Kimberly in class. She had studied engineering, but after exploring global work through the Perspectives class and taking a short-term trip to Northeast Asia, decided to equip herself for ministry. After they married in 1992, they continued to work in Venezuela at the school and in the community until they moved to Illinois in 2000 to take a staff leadership role in mobilization and later church engagement with TEAM. In 2016 Jim began to direct the work in Northeast Asia and has enjoyed partnering with Koreans to build on the work begun by his parents and others. Jim and Kimberly have three children: Hannah (21), Caleb (15), and Abigail (10).
