Bob and Veronique Clifford

My Story

Bob believed in God as a child, but it wasn’t until he was 17 that he gave his life to the Lord. When she was 15 years old, Veronique received Christ while at the Houlgate Christian Conference Center in France.

Upon completing his seminary degree, Bob felt his desire to serve Christ’s kingdom leading him into missionary work. Since her conversion, Veronique became involved in her church’s youth ministries and camps. While she became a missionary through marriage, she has served in multicultural missionary experiences in Africa, before returning to France.

Bob went to France in 1982 to work in the suburbs of Paris. He studied French at the Sorbonne and interned in a French church. Bob then joined a pioneer church start project.

Veronique and Bob met through their church’s youth groups. A French citizen, Veronique actively participated in ministries at her church and helped with a church-planting team. They were married in September 1985.

The Cliffords went to Chad in August 1987. Bob taught New Testament and theology at the Evangelical Bible Institute, a secondary level school. Then he helped start and develop programs at ESTES, a French language Bible institute and seminary in N’Djamena, the capital city where he taught New Testament, biblical exegesis, and theology.

“I am thankful to participate in the building up of the world-wide Church of Christ, especially in the French-speaking world where there are fewer workers,” Bob said.

Veronique taught a French introduction to the New Testament to future pastor’s wives at ESTES. She also led a weekly Bible club for neighborhood children.

Bob and Veronique set up a library for the school, published the quarterly school journal and helped structure student internships in local churches. Bob also served as elder in a local church in N’Djamena. He mobilized, printed, and taught prayer seminars for churches. He also served in the yearly house to house evangelism campaigns in Chad.

In 2000, Bob and Veronique returned to France. Bob works as pastoral church planter and developer in Plaisir (Paris area near Versailles). The church is seeking to purchase a permanent building. Veronique works with children’s and women’s ministries of the church. In addition, Bob serves the French national church council through the church health commission to help French nationals develop healthy, obedient churches which can multiply. Bob completed his Doctor of Ministry in 2007 at Fuller Theological Seminary on the theme of developing healthy churches in post-Christian France. The Cliffords have two boys.

Bob and Veronique are associated with TEAM, an evangelical mission agency which helps churches send missionaries to plant reproducing churches in other nations.
