In 2003 the South African Christian Leaders Association met and came up with these seven giants or challenges in the land that would have to be overcome in order for Christianity to make an impact. These challenges are crime, family in crisis, HIV/AIDS Pandemic, poverty and unemployment, racism, sexism, and violence and abuse.
Durban is a good reflection of all these giants. The need is great. How can we make a difference? The vision of Durban Bible College is to impact the world around us by training effective disciple-makers as church workers, pastors, teachers, and missionaries. Training leaders is strategic because Jesus spent His 3 ? years in ministry training 12 disciples, and then they went out and turned the world upside down for Him. We have students for 3 years at DBC and train them to turn their communities upside down for Christ.
My strength in ministry lies in the teaching materials I produce. I teach Biblical studies and for each Bible class I teach, I emphasize the following areas: marriage and family, prayer, spiritual warfare, holiness, discipleship for men, and missions. If the Bible text touches on any of these areas, I will do an extensive exposition or excursus on that topic.
Recently I have become more aware of how important discipleship and mentoring are to the spread of the gospel. I plan to continue to teach but most of the time will be outside a classroom doing one-on-one or small group discipleship.
