Dave and Sue Rousseau

Dave's Story

I am a native Zimbabwean who came to Christ through a Youth for Christ camp in Zimbabwe.

In 1979, missionaries helped me come across to Moody Bible Institute where I received a diploma in Biblical studies. I continued at Messiah College graduating in 1983 with a BA in Religious Studies. In 1986, I received an MDiv from Denver Seminary. In 2000, I received an MTh from UNISA (University of South Africa) and am currently working on a DTh from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. My subject area is a theology of community.

I married Sue Rousseau from Portage, WI, in 1983. During our time at Denver Seminary, we accepted a call to move to Zimbabwe and serve God there in the training of national leaders for the church.

In 1987, we joined TEAM, and in 1989 left for Zimbabwe and have been there until the present time.

Sue's Story

I was raised in Portage, WI. When I was six in an after-school Bible class taught by my mother, I took my first step towards giving my heart to God, recognizing that I was a sinner and needed salvation from my sins. In my teen years at a summer camp, I recognized that salvation also included a commitment on my part to do as the Bible commands and to give my life to whatever God wanted me to do. I attended Moody where I was challenged to be open to anywhere doing anything for Him. I also met David at Moody and we were married in 1983. After David’s training at Denver Seminary, we joined TEAM with the goal of serving in Zimbabwe passing on to other Zimbabweans what David had received during his time studying in the US.

Dave's Ministry Focus:

My primary ministry has been at The Harare Theological College (HTC) where I have served as a lecturer, registrar, academic dean, campus development director and for the last 11 years I have been the Principal of the college. In 2012 I stepped down from being Principal with a view to becoming more involved again with students in and out of class as they train for ministry.

HTC?s purpose is to teach men and women wishing to prepare for Christian ministry. HTC offers an evening research program which allows students to work and minister during the day and come to college in the evenings. There are 120 students this year of various ages, racial backgrounds, and local churches serving in one capacity or another. Some also work with para-church organizations such as Life Ministries, Youth for Christ, Scripture Union, Prison Fellowship, etc. Some are missionaries to neighboring countries once they have completed their training.

We also work with children at risk which is largely driven by the fact that of the 12 million people in Zimbabwe, about 1.2 million are orphans. I am on the Board of two ministries for Children at Risk: Hands of Hope which oversees about forty projects in Zimbabwe and Eden Children?s Village located in rural Doma, Zimbabwe. We help churches that seek to help these children by providing encouragement, training, oversight, and sometimes limited funding where deemed appropriate.

Other ministries –

TEAM Zimbabwe/Mozambique leadership, itinerant speaker at churches around Zimbabwe, house group leader

Sue's Ministry Focus:

Because Zimbabwe is an English speaking country, it is an easy place in this respect to come and do short-term missionary work. These past few years, Sue has overseen Team?s TEAMServe program which is for anyone wishing to come to help in Zimbabwe through TEAM from two weeks to one year in duration. They come to help at the Karanda Hospital medically, educationally or with maintenance; and in the capital city of Harare with HTC ministries, church ministries and orphan ministries.
