Herb and Joyce Zick

My Story

We were both raised in Catholic families and committed, at the time of our marriage, to an active faith within the Roman Catholic Church. During the early years of our marriage we both had many questions and, after years of searching we independently came to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ about eight years into married life. We were baptized on the same day and we would both often say that it is hard to recognize who we were before we were radically transformed. While life proceeded on “normally” (moving, Navy deployments, growing our family) neither of us would look at our circumstances the same way. We desired to draw closer and closer to our Lord and to have our lives bring Him glory and honor.

After twenty-two years of Navy life, retirement loomed. We began praying about what was “next” and the door opened for Herb to accept work as a contractor supporting the Navy in Naples, Italy. During the eight years we were in Naples, the need for the gospel became abundantly clear and we were blessed to join a vibrant Italian Christian community on the outskirts of Naples. We served in the church in various capacities, but four years into our time there the Lord opened the door for us to start a street ministry that reaches out to women trapped in the bondage of human trafficking. We began to pray as the Lord moved on our hearts to serve in Italy for the sake of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We were appointed as missionaries to Italy by TEAM for the purpose of returning to Italy to serve the Lord. Our prayer is that we will return to Italy in the fall of 2018.

Ministry Focus

1.We desire to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to treasures trapped in the darkness of human trafficking.

2.We have a heart to disciple young believers in the church.

3.Herb specifically desires to come alongside pastors in a support role within the church.

The People

Italy needs the gospel of Jesus Christ. Evangelical Christianity accounts for less than 1 percent of the population. Eighty percent of the population identifies as Roman Catholic but only five percent are practicing. Italy consistently ranks as one of the top two destination countries for women trafficked into prostitution in all of Europe.

Primary Prayer Request

Pray for us as we begin this new journey and that we faithfully seek God’s will and not our own.
