I’ve felt God calling me to the mission field for about 10 years, and through that time He’s cultivated a desire in my heart to work with the at-risk, unloved, and forgotten in our society. While working in the U.S. wasn’t the door I ever expected Him to open (isn’t that how it always goes?), I’m excited that He’s provided me the opportunity to serve with TEAM in Muskegon, MI. I’ll be working alongside Fresh Coast Alliance, a reentry and recovery collaborative dedicated to transforming the lives of those affected by incarceration and addiction. By offering fellowship, resources, and opportunity, FCA is introducing the hope of Christ to a community desperately in need of it.
Muskegon County sees thousands of men and women return from jail every year with addictions, debt, few job opportunities, and even fewer positive relationships to mentor them through the harsh transition. My role as a Life Coach will provide opportunities to develop relationships with the individuals enrolled in FCA’s programs, which in turn will open doors for me to share the love of Christ both in word and in practical action. It is an opportunity to stand in the gap for the underreached in the community — those that may never set foot in a church or may never otherwise hear the Gospel — and help them develop the tools they need to break the cycle of addiction and incarceration, restore their dignity, and find hope in Christ.
Moving to Michigan will be quite the adjustment, both emotionally as I leave my family and hometown as well as physically as I adjust to a new location. Prayers for mental and physical health are appreciated!
