My Story

I was born in Northern Canada to parents who were missionaries to the Canadian Aboriginals. I had my first plane and canoe ride before I ever rode in a car. While I was growing up I always wanted to be a missionary nurse to Africa. We would listen to records at night about Dave Livingstone and other missionaries in Africa. Living up in northern Canada the nurses played an important role in the village. They would come to visit with my parents often and I became interested in being a nurse.

I became a Christian at the age of 19 years during a crusade in Tisdale, SK. While I was doing my nurses training I went to Urban in 1976 and make a commitment for missionary service.

I worked as a nurse for 5 years and then decided to go with TEAM as a short termer. The Lord lead me to Zimbabwe and I was there for 11/2 years (July 1984 till April 1986) before I came back and went career with TEAM. During this time I did Bible School at Three Hills, AB.

I went back to Zimbabwe in Oct 1988 and have been serving at Karanda Mission Hospital since then. The Lord gave me a real love to help women and babies. I went and did my midwifery at Harare Hospital and then did my masters in midwifery at Surrey University in England. I have been working in the maternity department and teaching midwifery since 1992.

Ministry Focus:

Educating midwifery students, serving God and serving others at Karanda Mission Hospital and Karanda School of Nursing & Midwifery.

The People:

The main people that we work with at Karanda are the Mashona people who speak Shona. The official language is English and Shona. A lot of people in the rural areas do not speak or understand English very well.

Primary prayer Request:

Pray that I may show God’s love to those I come in contact with each day. I want to be a light that shines for Jesus. Pray for strength, wisdom and grace each day since we are working under a lot of pressure and have a heavy work load.
