My Story

My wife Barbara and I made our first trip to Japan in 1981 as two year short term missionaries and assisted in a church planting work in Takamatsu Japan. We returned to Japan as career missionaries in 1988 and after one year of Japanese language school made Oita Japan our home and ministry for 12 years. Needing to return to the states in 2001 due to some concerns for our two special need children, the next five years were spent on deputation and recruiting missionaries for the Japan field. The door opened up for us in 2006 to return to Japan and to the place where it all began, Takamatsu. We are now leading the ministry initiative there with a Japanese pastor and another independent missionary.

Ministry Focus:

Our ministry focus is church planting, the establishment of the Takamatsu Community Church as a vibrant reproducing church. To see that as a reality, we are involved in a number of activities, ranging from music to education, from evangelism to discipleship and many others. Our church now meets in five locations and we have two Japanese pastors and four missionaries working together to realize the vision.

The People:

The people are very confident and seem happy on the outside, but their hearts are dark and without hope. Most are well to do and all seem to have an attachment to Japanese culture and tradition that is exceedingly hard to break. They love things western and are respectful to outsiders, but their hearts are very hard toward spiritual things. It is a place where the Word and prayer are the main weapons to be wielded.

Primary Prayer Request:

For the salvation of our contacts and neighbors and for boldness for our believers in the churches.
