My Story

I grew up in Olean, NY and am the eldest of three. I accepted Jesus into my heart when I was eight years old at a Christian summer camp. In high school, I spent two summers in Jamaica helping with various orphanages and church building projects. God broke my heart for the innocent children of the world and gave me a strong call for missions and hurting people.

I went to Houghton College and studied Biology with the desire to one day serve as a medical missionary. During my last year I had the opportunity to spend a semester in Tanzania, East Africa. While there, I became sick with subcutaneous anthrax. Through the testimony of my African nurses, the Lord showed me that He wanted me to be a nurse and minister to people’s basic needs. The Lord also brought me my best friend and now husband, Ben. After Houghton, I did a one year nursing program to get my RN degree before getting married August 30th, 2003.

Ben and I have been married for over nine years now and he has been by my side through many adventures and trials. We have lived in many places including Washington DC, Fort Myers Florida, Columbia SC and Brazil. It has been exciting to see God direct our path and walk with us each step of the way.

One of the trials that has most impacted both our lives was the death of our first son, Noah, at the age of 15 1/2 months on April, 21st 2007. The Lord has been our greatest comfort and source of strength as we grieve the loss of Noah. I know that I will hold my little boy again and that through the testimony of his young life we can comfort and help others.

God has also blessed us with three more boys, Caleb, Samuel and David. They are a joy and a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness. As I daily deal with the mixed emotions of grief and joy , I am reminded of the reality of heaven. I desire for the world to know the truth of Jesus Christ and to give their hearts to Him. I am excited for the opportunity to serve in Brazil and be encouraging Brazilians to reach out to a hurting world in need of Christ.

In my free time I love to exercise, do arts and crafts, cook, play games, visit with my neighbors, read, and take care of my family of boys. I am excited for what the Lord has for us here in Brazil and look forward to serving Him.

Ministry Focus

Mobilizing, Equipping and Sending Brazilian missionaries to the Unreached peoples of the world. We are partnering with the Brazilian Church in their zeal to reach the lost for Christ and His Kingdom! We work with MAEB, an interdenominational missions agency that is growing and making an impact locally and around the world.

The People

Brazilians are a very outgoing, friendly people who are passionate about many things, such as soccer, a good “churrasco” barbeque, but also about their relationship with Jesus! Their passion for our Savior, fueled with solid biblical, missiological and interpersonal training is why we are in Brazil. We are sending these passionate Brazilian missionaries to the unreached around the world, and helping “wounded warriors” (those burnt out or hurt in ministry) regain their zeal to serve the Lord.

Brazilians are loved around the world for their hospitality, their focus on family and community–this serves to their benefit and the Kingdom’s advance in many regions of the world where North Americans often have a difficult time seeing their efforts come to fruition. It is a great privilege to be a part of what God is doing through the Brazilian Church around the world, as they demonstrate these Christ-like qualities among the nations.

Primary Prayer Request

Pray for our family’s continued adjustment to culture and language learning, for establishing our own home here and putting down roots–difficult to do as a cross-cultural missionary!
