Ric and Sharon Wiles

Ric's Story

I was born in Dayton, Ohio. I accepted Christ and was baptized as a young boy. I grew up in a church denomination called “The Missionary Church”. Every year at this church, we would have missions week. It was during that week that God began calling me to serve Him in the mission field. My excitement from hearing missionary stories only fostered a curiosity and a desire to travel to far away lands to share the Good News of the Gospel with people that were in need of a Savior. Shortly after marrying Sharon, my wife, we discovered we shared a mutual calling to join God in the mission field. After several short-term mission trips to a few Central American countries, we knew this is what God wanted us to do. We are excited to join the work the Lord is already doing in Peru. Please pray for us as we help the Peruvian church spread the Gospel of Christ to those that need Him.

Sharon's Story

I am the youngest of four children and, by far, the most adventurous. My father was in the Air Force, which gave me the opportunity to experience many diverse cultures growing up. I was born in Columbus, Ohio. The Air Force graciously recorded that my mother gave birth to a Chinese boy and my brothers never let me forget it. Shortly after my birth, my family moved to Hawaii, where it is truly a melting pot of many different people and cultures. I grew up in the Free Will Baptist Church and the Christian Missionary Alliance Church, where missions were a major focus and started my lifelong love of missions. My Great Aunt Dee also fueled my passion. She was a missionary and had a beautiful back porch full of exotic plants and cactus. She would often tell us about the different plants and intertwine a story of Jesus Christ in every parable.

When I met my husband Ric, and found that we shared a love for Christ and missions, I knew God was doing a mighty work in our life. Now, that our children are out of the house, God has made our path clear. Through our love for missions and several short-term mission trips, He is calling us to go share His Gospel, His love, and the salvation of Christ with a lost and hurting world. We are looking in anticipation who God will call to partner with us on our journey.

Ministry Focus:

We will be joining the team already established in Arequipa, along with the existing church, El Camino, to begin the process of planting a church in the Bustamante y Rivero neighborhood. It is our desire to connect with the people of Bustamante y Rivero and show them that we love them and that Jesus does too.

Matthew 9:37-38 says: Then Jesus said to His disciples, “the harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

The People:

The city of Arequipa is located in the desert mountains of the Andes, approximately 8000 ft above sea level. The city is surrounded by three volcanoes. It is often called the “White City” due to the many buildings that are constructed with sillar, a white volcanic stone.

The people of Arequipa are deeply rooted in their traditions, despite the recent explosion of modernization. Catholicism is the dominant religion and is entwined in the heart of these traditions. 81% of Peruvians are Catholic, but are beginning to open up to the Gospel.

Primary Prayer Request:

For the Spirit of God to move in the hearts of the Peruvians.

Pray that God begins to prepare us to serve Him in Peru and make His will known to the Team missionaries serving in South America.

Raising support (both financial and prayer)

For the safety of missionaries everywhere.
