Ministry Focus:

We are serving with a team of one couple and one single in Santa Ursula, Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain. Fountain of Peace & Hope Christian Church was launched in 2007 in the north central area of the island. We believe in making “gospel noise” through the ministry of short term teams, which has included participants from the US, Venezuela and the peninsula of Spain to help with family oriented activities and basketball camps. The church meets in a rental facility (approximately 70 worshipers on Sundays) and gathers the believers for community life in five small group Bible studies throughout the week. As a church, we invest a lot of resources into nurturing the family to live out their God given roles. The adults and youth are incorporated into serving the Lord, which includes “sending” them to participate in the short term ministry activities during the summer months. Our goal as a church is to glorify God by rejoicing in the reconciliation that we have in Christ.

The People:

The Canary Islands were conquered by Spain in the late 1490’s, thus interjecting Spanish culture into the existing “guanche” culture. The Canaries became a natural stop over for the trade routes to the South American regions during the colonial era. As a result, the Canarian people and culture has developed as a mixture of peninsula Spain, the pre conquest people and influences from Latin America. Roman Catholicism, language and centuries of history come from the mainland, the authentic Canarians show resistance to outside influence, and the Latin Americans bring spontaneity and relationship to the Canaries.
