82 Opportunities
With more than 120 languages, Chad is one of the most linguistically diverse countries in Africa, and more than half of its language groups have little or no Christian witness. TEAM missionaries work with young churches and their leaders, run a radio station, work in community health, teach English, and use traditional oral storytelling to spread the Gospel.
View OpportunitiesStretching nearly a 1000 miles from the savannahs of central Africa to 12-thousand foot volcanoes in the depths of the Sahara desert, the country of Chad is one of the last frontiers of Africa. Vast reaches of the country are still little changed from days when the French first colonized this country in 1901. Millions of people remain subsistence farmers, eking out a precarious existence on the sub-Saharan plains south of the Sahara.
Yet the noisy, urban jumble of the capital and provincial centers reveal a country which is hurtling headlong into modernity. Most of those subsistence farmers have a cell phone now, and every year, travel becomes easier as more of the country’s legendary dirt roads are paved. This rich mosaic of the traditional and the modern offers incredible challenges as well as unparalleled opportunities for outreach. TEAM is in the forefront of addressing those challenges.
