Southeast Asia, divided into mainland and maritime regions, is extremely diverse. The area has long played a key role in history as an important maritime trading hub and gateway to the rest of Asia. Democratic forms of government are now taking root as many countries gain national autonomy, which is opening the doors for the gospel to be shared throughout the region.View Opportunities
Spiritual Need in Southeast Asia
The distribution of religions and people is extremely diverse in Southeast Asia, as the area is divided into two regions – mainland countries such as Thailand and Cambodia, and maritime countries such as Indonesia and the Philippines. Its multiple cultural, social, and political influences can be traced back to frequent colonization by other countries due its historical importance as a maritime trading hub and as a gateway to the rest of Asia. As more countries gain autonomy and embrace democratic forms of governments, there is greater opportunity to freely share the gospel with people in urban and rural settings.
TEAM’s ministries are as varied as the region, and include community development, education, and healthcare. National believers are also being equipped to launch and lead the next generation of churches, and art and music are being used as a bridge to build relationships with unreached people groups.
