Over 23% of the population lives in extreme poverty. The majority of the families are led by single-mothers who must work in order to provide for their children. Most of these women do not know English, have little education, and no specific job training. Opportunities for employment are scarce. In desperation, many of these women, and even their children turn to prostitution for survival.
Mexico
The Baja peninsula is a booming tourist destination that offers secure employment for Mexicans facing a changing economy. But as workers migrate to Baja, they sever family ties, traditions, and values, often turning to drugs and alcohol. TEAM is building solid churches in the midst of the despair of Baja's tourist towns. TEAM is also developing a network of cell churches on the mainland of Mexico in Guadalajara and is reaching out to the people of La Paz via ministry at El Camino Ranch.

Guatemala is a rugged mountainous, jungle covered country filled with visible, crumbling reminders of ancient civilizations. It is a very religious country where spirituality is observable nearly everywhere but which is seldom more than a blistering, peeling veneer hiding fears, masking poverty and delaying concerns for an uncertain future.
